The Dance Rites project is the brainchild of the Sydney Opera House’s Head of Indigenous Programming, Rhoda Roberts, and a significant extension of the Opera House’s commitment to promoting First Nation arts and culture.

NEWS UPDATE May 2017

In 2017, the Sydney Opera House has committed to stage the third Dance Rites competition finals as part of Homeground on Sunday 26 November 2017.

We have worked to secure Dance Rites’ long-term success, through its own increased investment and through securing the philanthropic support, partnerships, and funding to take Dance Rites independently into the future.

In addition to consolidating its extraordinary initial success in 2015, and restaging Dance Rites at Homeground at the Sydney Opera House in 2016, our goal has been to expand the foundational community consultation process that will allow Dance Rites to mature, develop and achieve truly national scale. In 2016, while continuing to work with East Coast indigenous communities, Rhoda Roberts was also in conversation with communities in Western and South Australia to broaden Dance Rites’ reach, increase engagement and encourage registrations.

ARROW Collective is in partnership with the Sydney Opera House on Dance Rites 2017/18 as its Foundation Partner.
